Jaguar Land Rover introduces new Ingenium in-line six-cylinder engine
Jaguar Land Rover has announced a new in-line six-cylinder engine as the latest addition to its Ingenium petrol powertrain line-up. Jaguar in particular is renowned for its in-line six engines of years gone by, and the new six-pot will be offered in that brandu2019s wares, as well as Land Rover and Range Rover products. The new 3.0-litre in-line six will be offered in two different power levels: the lower-spec version will produce 265kW of power and 495Nm of torque, while the higher-output example will have 294kW/550Nm. Compared to the existing supercharged V6 engines offered in vehicles like the Jaguar F-Type, the new motors have seen improvements for both power and torque: the current examples run 250kW/450Nm and 280kW/460Nm respectively.
The new engine will feature an electric supercharger to negate any turbo lag that the twin-scroll turbocharger system may exhibit.
The new engine will also make use of mild hybrid technology, according to JLR, with a 48-volt battery system using an electric motor u201cto harvest energy lost during deceleration, and then intelligently redeploy it to assist the engine to maximise efficiencyu201d.
That tech will help it use 20 per cent less fuel than the current model, and it will have a petrol particulate filter to reduce emissions by up to 75 per cent, according to JLR.
No details have been made public about the transmission that will be used, but you can expect an automatic that will be capable of being applied to rear- and four-wheel drive applications. Performance and acceleration times havenu0027t been announced as yet, and nor have the details on which cars the new engines will be offered in. There is a new
Range Rover Sport HST
that will get the powerplant first in the US, but CarsGuide has learned we wonu2019t see that car here. Australian customers will have to wait until 2020 to see which Jaguar, Land Rover and Range Rover products the powertrains will be offered in.
